Background/Brief: The GBU-53/B StormBreaker (formerly Small Diameter Bomb II) is a low-yield, precision guided munition capable of striking moving targets in all-weather from up to 46 miles away. This smart weapon achieved initial fielding for deployment on missions for the F-15 in late 2020 with the F-18 and F-35 following at a later date.
The StormBreaker (SB) team requested new creative assets reflecting the weapon’s use on these airframes. In my role as a project manager, I worked with a subject matter expert from SB to develop accurate real-world scenarios for the weapon on the requested airframes. I provided art direction to the 3D artist based on this information. Once finalized large prints of the art were created and displayed in the SB offices and factory; the art was also added to the team’s PowerPoint template for digital use. I later created a commemorative coin and provided additional assets and guidance to an external vendor that created a promotional video for the larger SB rollout.
